George Russell Dixon was born in Kingston, NY on April 8, 1938. His mother was a housewife and his father owned an animal feed business. He attended Hurley Elementary School for 8 years where he developed skills in writing poems and short stories, and was an avid reader of dog books and teen adventure stories.
He attended Kingston High School for 4 years, where his favorite courses were algebra, geometry, and physics. He was elected to the National Honor Society and received a 4-year Regents scholarship to Hamilton college in upstate NY.
Encouraged by his father to major in pre-med courses (because doctors “made lots of money”), he majored in biology, but his favorite subjects were physics, philosophy and English composition.
Rather than return to Hamilton for his junior year, he enlisted in the Air Force and, following Basic Training in Texas, was sent to Syracuse University for 9 months of intensive training in the Russian language. He was subsequently flown to Rhein Main airbase in Frankfurt, Germany for a 2 ½ year tour of duty as a Russian analyst.
Following his 4-year tour in the Air Force, he returned stateside and finished the remaining 2 years of study at Hamilton. He received his BA degree in 1963.
After graduation from Hamilton, he was quickly hired by the National Security Agency as a Russian Analyst.
Throughout his working career as a software engineer, George continued with his lifelong interest in physics, taking courses as a special student at MIT, Cornell, and the U. of Colorado.
Following retirement, he wrote several novels and created two websites featuring articles in Physics. At the age of 83 he continues working on these websites. Most of his work in physics and literature can be viewed on the websites www.grdlit.net and www.physics-by-dixon.com. He plans to continue in his efforts to inform and entertain for as long as he is able. He hopes that all who read some of his works find it a pleasant experience.
